Privacy policy

We cannot read your notes, photos, files, voice notes or location. They are encrypted on your phone before they are sent, using keys that exist only on your device and on the devices of people you have explicitly chosen. This is not a policy we could change without rebuilding the app.
Who operates Breeze
Breeze is operated by Zovia Studio LLC, a Virginia limited liability company, on behalf of the organisation that holds the account for the service. Zovia Studio LLC operates the domain, the web hosting and the text messaging account used by Breeze.

What we cannot see
The following are encrypted on your device before they leave it. We hold only the locked version and no key that opens it:
- Notes, and any text you write
- Photos and files you add
- Voice notes
- Your location, including any location shared during an alert
- Calendar entries you create in the app
- The names or labels you give to the people you add
Neither Zovia Studio LLC nor the organisation holding the account can decrypt any of it. Nor can anyone who obtains a copy of our database.
The one exception is the map. When someone you chose looks at your location, their browser unlocks it and sends it to Google to draw the map. See Service providers below.
What we do hold, and can see
Some information has to remain readable so the service can function at all, principally so that a text message can be addressed to the right phone:
- Mobile numbers of the contacts you add, so messages can be sent to them
- Your email address, used only to sign you in
- Who is connected to whom, so messages reach the right people
- Timestamps of events, such as when a check-in was set or a message sent
- A random identifier for each phone you use Breeze on, and the token Apple or Google gives us to send a notification to it
- Which plan you are on, and the receipts of any subscription you buy, kept by our subscription provider
- Basic technical records needed to deliver messages and operate the service
We do not know what any of those events contained, only that they happened and when.
Text messages and your mobile information
No mobile information is shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third party.
Mobile numbers are passed to our messaging provider for the sole purpose of delivering the messages you ask Breeze to send. They are not used for marketing, are not sold, and are not shared with anyone else.
Message frequency
Message frequency varies and is determined entirely by the person using the app. Breeze sends a message only when a user asks it to, and sends no scheduled, recurring or automated marketing messages of any kind. Most recipients receive very few messages.
Costs
Message and data rates may apply. Breeze does not charge for receiving messages; your mobile carrier's normal rates apply.

What we never collect
- We do not use analytics or advertising software in the app
- We do not track you across other apps or websites
- We do not request access to your contacts
- We do not sell any information about you to anyone, for any purpose
Service providers
Breeze runs on infrastructure operated by others. These providers hold only the encrypted form of your content, and no key to it:
- Google Firebase, for storage, account sign-in, notifications and crash reports
- Twilio, for sending text messages
- Cloudflare, for web hosting
- RevenueCat, for subscriptions. It receives your Breeze account number and the receipts for a plan you buy from the App Store or Google Play. It does not receive your email, your name or any of your content.
One provider receives your location in readable form, and only when someone you chose looks at it:
- Google Maps, which draws the map. When someone you support opens your location, during an alert or a place you shared after a missed check-in or when you arrived, their browser sends that position to Google to show it. Google also receives their device's internet address and any Google cookies in their browser. If they tap Open in Google Maps, Google Maps receives your position too, and it can stay in their Google Maps history. Google handles all of this under its own privacy policy.
To show the weather screen, your phone sends its location, rounded to about a kilometre, directly to the National Weather Service, the United States government's weather service. Breeze sends it no account details. Like any website, it sees your phone's internet address, and that the request comes from software made by Zovia Studio. Searching for a city happens on your phone and sends nothing.
If Breeze crashes, a report is sent to Google to help fix it. It holds the type of error and where it happened, the phone model and the version of its software. It holds no account details and none of what you wrote.
How long we keep things
- Your history is kept for a period you choose in the app. The default is 90 days.
- Location shared during an alert stops being recorded when the alert ends, and the people you chose can no longer open it. Any of it kept with your history stays encrypted so only you can open it, and is deleted with that entry or when your history period ends.
- A single place you share, after a missed check-in or when you arrive, can be seen by the people you chose for one day at most, and is then kept the same way.
- If you do not open the app for 60 days, Breeze may delete your history. If it does, a reminder is sent at 50 days.
- A copy of the database is kept for 7 days to recover from faults. Your content in it is encrypted like everything else, and once you delete your account nobody can open your own copy of it.
Deleting everything
You can delete your account from inside the app, in one step, with no questions asked. Deletion destroys the keys first, which makes your content permanently unreadable immediately, before any data is erased. The data is then erased.

Your rights
You can export your own records from your phone at any time. Because your content is encrypted with keys we do not hold, an export can only be produced on your own device, and no request to us could produce a readable copy.

Legal requests
If we receive a legal demand for data, we will respond as the law requires. What we are able to produce is limited to what we hold, which does not include any key capable of decrypting your content. We will not volunteer data absent a valid legal demand.
Children
Breeze is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
